Posi-Joist Department Manager – Richard Pashley

  1. Full name
    • Richard Pashley
  2. Job title
    • Posi-Joist Department Manager
  3. How long have you been in this role?
    • I started working in a truss / joist manufacturing plant as a summer job before college and university. After university I went back until I found my career and
was promoted from there. As I progressed I found that it was a good match
      for me.
  4. What do you think makes a good designer?
    • For a designer, a good eye for detail and a desire to help the customer
achieve what they want. For a manager, good experience and understanding
along with knowledge of how business and how people work.
  5. What has been your biggest achievement in your career so far?
    • Probably the effect I have managed to have on joist turnover, building a much
stronger order book through product knowledge and attention to detail. Also,
the promotions that have come with this.
  6. What else would you like to achieve?
    • More of the same, I really want to continue to grow the business and help
more developers see the benefits our product and the service we offer.
  7. What motivates you to do your best everyday?
    • A mixture of a natural desire to do my best, the satisfaction of building
      business and satisfying customers’ needs.
  8. Use one word to describe the culture at ETS?
    • Driven.
  9. What would your ideal team building activity be and why?
    • Half a day doing climbing / high ropes course or something similar as it is a
good group activity which aids communicating, breaks down barriers etc.
Then half a day on a track with cars or motorbikes (we tend to do go carting
which is great!) because it is a huge amount of fun. People really open up
after the race when the helmets are off. Also if I beat the boss that’s a huge
      bonus!
  10. What do you like to do away from work?
    • I do a lot of walking and mountain biking. I like being outdoors and having a
project on in the house or garden. I very much enjoy spending time with my
Fiancé, our two children, and Max our Lurcher.
  11. If ETS was to have a theme song what would it be?
    • I really don’t know. At a push I would say ‘Hotel California’ by the Eagles. As I like the song, and there is always something at the end of the day that keeps
me here that bit longer. “You can check out any time you like, but you can
      never leave.”
  12. What animal would best describe your supervisor?
    • Probably a human, failing that…perhaps a ring tailed lemur, he is inquisitive and on it, but without the aggression of say a honey badger.
