Orangery Roof

Roof Project

Location: Staffordshire

Orangeries are growing in popularity as an option to add more space to their property.

For many people, an orangery can grant the space wanted at a fraction of the cost of a more substantial extension.

Ordinarily, this type of extension adds room to the living room or dining areas. The design of these spaces allows light to flood in, providing a great entertainment area.

In this particular instance, a regular customer contacted us about a project in Staffordshire.

The customer is one to whom we have provided many orangery roofs to before.

Aware of our attention to detail, fast turnaround times and excellent customer service, they were confident that we would be able to deliver for this project.

The homeowner was looking for a large orangery extension to their property. It would include bi-fold doors and a large, long glass lantern.

The orangery construction would be of brick, and the support over the large bi-fold doors would be steel.

With demand increasing in this market, ETS has spent a great deal of time detailing connections to the existing property, soffit and parapet wall details and providing solutions nationwide.

The open web nature of the metal web joist allows for any electrical cabling to be thread through the void, without the need for drilling of the joists.

Our design team using the details of the supporting walls and the lantern weight presented a design to the customer. As well as allowing for the weight of the roof lantern, our state-of-the-art design software can calculate snow drift loads and uplift forces. Meaning that you can rest assured that the design is safe and secure.

Once final dimensions were taken and confirmation of the lantern size and weight, the metal web joists went out to production.

Our manufacturing team is an efficient, experienced team who operate seamlessly to ensure that we can meet our stated turnaround times.

Once delivered to site, the customer, familiar with the installation of metal web joists and provisioned with a full set of laminated drawings from ourselves completed the installation of the posi-joists within the day

Our reliable service and the speed of installation allowed our customer to liaise with the company providing the lantern, giving them an accurate timeline for the lantern to be delivered. These heavy glass units often need craning into place, thus often vital that the roof is ready when they arrive.

Happily, our customer reported that the metal web joist installation and subsequent lantern fitting went without a hitch.
