ETS supports MiTek T-Level students

At ETS we enjoy working with our partners so when MiTek approached us and asked if its four T-Level students, from Dudley College of Technology, could spend a day at ETS, of course we said yes.

T-Levels were introduced in September 2020 and they are technical-based qualifications, developed in collaboration with employers and businesses. The idea is to train young people in areas that meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work, further training, or study. T-Levels are two-year courses that can be studied by 16-18 year olds after finishing their GCSEs and they are the equivalent of three A-Levels.

MiTek’s students are taking T-Levels in fields which will help them forge a career in construction, design or manufacturing industry, allowing them to become architects or designers of the future.

We started by giving them a tour of the factory, then we showed them how we take drawings to create a design using MiTek’s Pamir software. The next step was getting them involved in the practical side of manufacturing and helping them to make a joist themselves!

The day was really well received and Ian Watson and Simon Connor from MiTek passed on their thanks.

Simon Connor, EMEA Product Portfolio Manager for MiTek said: “Thank you for the fantastic day you set up for our interns, it was very well received by them and really useful for me and Ian as we grow ever stronger ties with your organisation.

“The pick of subject matter experts to guide the interns through design and manufacture was spot on and we ask that you pass on our appreciation to all the departments that helped.

“And thank you to Jill for providing them with an understanding that great leadership is not gender biased.”

ETS’s Operations Manager, Leah Llewellyn added: “ Hosting the students for the day was truly inspiring. Witnessing their enthusiasm, especially during the hands–on experience was a testament to their genuine interest in our industry. It’s incredibly rewarding to see future generations actively engaging and learning about the intricacies of our work, reinforcing the promising future of our industry.

“Having female students join us was very encouraging. We believe in breaking stereotypes and embracing diversity. Seeing young women dive into the action proves that anyone can excel in this industry. We’re all about empowering everyone, regardless of gender, to build a future they’re passionate about.”
