Sawmill experience for ETS

Sawmill experience for ETS

The team at ETS is always keen to learn and expand its knowledge so when an opportunity to visit a sawmill in Sweden came up, the team jumped at the chance!

The sawmill was JGA, which was founded by Johan Gustaf Andersson in 1928. The business is now run by the fourth generation of the Andersson family and remains a family business to this day.

JGA is one of the largest privately owned sawmills in south Sweden. It produces 250,000 m³ timber per annum using 400,000 m³ of raw material supplied by private forest owners and other suppliers.

The other party involved in the trip was Taylor Maxwell. This business is on a mission to be an industry leader and to drive positive change in the construction industry. It aims to do this by working with partners for a better future. Sustainability is a big focus for Taylor Maxwell as the built environment is a major contributor to global carbon emissions and it is taking action and encouraging partners to do the same. Taylor Maxwell supports customers to design and build sustainable developments where people can thrive.

The educational trip was thoroughly enjoyed by the ETS team. Jill Sankey, MD of ETS said:

“It was such a privilege for Engineered Timber Solutions to be invited to visit the JGA sawmill last week with Taylor Maxwell. Such an eye-opening trip to see the lifecycle of the Swedish timber industry. I do love my numbers so here goes – the nursery we visited can produce 24 million saplings in 3 months, the average age of a piece of TR26 is 80 years old, and the JGA sawmill can output 1,500m3 PER DAY!

“It really was mind-blowing and we enjoyed every second, thank you so much to Scott Barrett, Gregg Pickett and Annelie Bjuringer for being such excellent hosts, cannot thank you enough.”
