Attic Extension

Attic Extension

Roof Project

Location: Wolverhampton

Project type
Residential

In early 2018, ETS was approached by a local builder based in Wolverhampton.

The builder had been appointed by his client to increase the footprint of their home. This increase in footprint would necessitate a new roof, and the client wished to capitalise on the opportunity by extending their living space into the new roof.

The design team here at ETS took the drawings provided by the builder and drew up the initial roof design. This design allowed for two large bedrooms to use up all the available space within the roof.
One of the restrictions that had to be incorporated into the design was a planning restriction that applied to the ridge height.

To ensure that the customer was able to access as much of the new space as possible, a flat roof attic truss became the final design. The flat roof delivers the necessary room height within the roof, to make the maximum space habitable, but also remain within the council mandated restriction. To complement the roof space, dormer windows were designed and built into the roof structure to give the new living areas the added benefit of plenty of natural light.

Once the design had been finalised, and the Designer takes final site dimensions during a site visit, the production of the trusses could begin.

Due to the size of the trusses, they necessitated delivery on an articulated lorry using our specialist truss trailer.

Delivery to site is organised and coordinated by our Production Manager who liaised directly with the builder to ensure that the trusses arrived when they were needed and there was an appropriate offload arranged. Alongside the trusses, the necessary metalwork hangers are supplied, with a full set of laminated drawings showing the truss layouts, metalwork placement, and bracing diagrams to enable the erecting team on-site to work as efficiently as possible in securing the trusses.

This project resulted in the existing attic space within the property being transformed into a large, comfortable living area to complement the rest of the house, while increasing the value of the property.

Attic trusses are a fantastic solution to achieving additional living space within a property. In this case, the footprint of the building underwent an extension, but this is not a prerequisite for attaining space within an existing roof void.

Whether it’s extra living space, a luxury bedroom or a peaceful office area you require, our room-in-the-roof specialists will help you extend your home by transforming your unused space into a usable area.
